HOW TO FRAME A PAINTING ON YUPO SYNTHETIC PAPER A watercolor painting on YUPO synthetic paper that will not be immediately framed can be sprayed with a workable fixative to prevent the paint from being disturbed during handling and storage. If framing immediately, use of the fixative is optional. If you are delivering the painting to a professional framer, apply a light coat of fixative to make handling the painting easier for the framer. Avoid using too much fixative, as it might create a film on the inside of the glass. When framing a watercolor painting on YUPO paper, mat the painting in order to put a little space between the paint and the glass. Acrylic paintings on YUPO paper are easier to handle. Generally, the paint will not come off of the YUPO paper, although thick applications of acrylic paint could be scraped off with a fingernail or a knife. Because the acrylic paint will not be disturbed by normal handling, these can be framed without glass or matting. However, if you prefer glass and/or matting, that is certainly acceptable and provides extra protection to the painting. If you are in doubt about how to secure the YUPO paper in your frame, consult with a professional framer for the best results. |
